Have a look at retirementsimulator.co.nz to see the impact that increasing what you put in could have on your future balance.   Contribution from your pay   You can choose to contribute 3%, 4%, 6%, 8% or 10% of your salary. If you contribute 3%, your employer has to match it! As a start, talk to your employer.   Voluntary contributions   It’s easy to put extra savings into your KiwiSaver account using online banking.   Government contributions   Government will give you up to $521 every year (criteria apply).
